Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) services are at a higher risk of COVID-19 transmission due to the close interactions between people and the amount of time spent in settings that are often indoors.

COVID-19 remains a relatively mild illness for most children. Children are less likely to have a serious illness from COVID-19, but they can still transmit the virus to others therefore it is important to follow the health advice and consider your individual circumstances.

The announcement to ease the isolation requirements for close contacts will not affect FDC Educators. If a person in the FDC educator household or FDC educator herself is a positive case of COVID-19, in that case, the FDC educator has to stop work and self-isolate for 7 days. During the self-isolation period, FDC educators cannot provide care. If an FDC educator or household member is self-isolating she cannot have any visitors, Unless they are providing healthcare, emergency maintenance or emergency services.

There are no changes for positive cases: the seven-day isolation requirement remains in place for anyone who has recorded a positive RAT or PCR result. Those people who test positive must follow NSW Health’s Testing positive to COVID-19 and managing COVID-19 safely at home guidelines.

FDC educators are encouraged to maintain COVID-smart measures to help slow the spread of COVID-19. These practices will also help to keep educators and children safe and well throughout the winter months. These measures will continue to be reviewed and updated as necessary, based on health advice.
FDC educators are encouraged to put in place additional COVID-smart practices if they are experiencing a large increase in case numbers to minimise disruption.
